1. Village Justice Court Information
Village Justice, Court Clerk, and Court Administration The Village Justice Court handles Vehicle and Traffic (VTL) appearance tickets issued within the Village Boundary by Nassau County and NY State Police. Additionally, all Village issued parking, Building Department and Code Enforcement appearance tickets are returnable in the Village Justice Court. The Village Justice is elected at-large to a four year term. The Board of Trustees annually appoints an attorney as Acting Village Justice to serve in absence of the Justice. The Village also has Village Prosecutors who prosecute all cases. A Clerk to the Justice and a Deputy Court Clerk handle all court dates, mail, and fines received on summonses. Arraignments, conferences, and trials are held in the Village Court on the third Wednesday of the month. The Court Room is located on the main floor of the Village Hall and the court sessions are open to the public. 2. How can I obtain a copy of my driver’s license?
You can call the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles.

3. Why did the judge not mention points being assessed against my driver’s license?
Points are assessed by the Department of Motor Vehicles not the Village Court Judge.

6. What if I fail to make payments?
The Village Court Office will request that the judge issue a bench warrant for your arrest if you fail to make payments.

7. If I represent myself can I discuss my case directly with the prosecuting attorney before the case is heard before the judge?
Upon arriving at the Village Court you should identify the prosecuting attorney as soon as possible and wait your turn in line in order to discuss your case with him or her.

8. Can I plead “not guilty” in advance of my first court date?
If you intend to plead “not guilty” then you should contact the court before the court appearance date indicated on the summons and your first appearance will not be necessary.

9. Can I pay the fine in advance of the court date set forth on the summons?
Yes, in most cases you can avoid a court appearance by paying the fine before the court date set forth on the summons. However, you must appear in court if the box “Court Appearance Required” is checked or marked.
